In addition to its physical therapists, Richmond Physical Therapy
also has two certified athletic trainers (ATC's) on staff. Robin Eldridge
and Jason Engle are both certified through the National Athletic Trainers
Association and licensed through the Virginia Board of Medicine.
Robin and Jason assist the physical therapists with patient care in
the mornings and then provide athletic training services to 7th - 12th
graders at two local schools in the afternoons. Robin has been the
athletic trainer at St. Christopher's School for the past twelve years, and
Jason has been at The Collegiate Schools for three years.
As athletic trainers some of their duties include the initial evaluation
and management of injuries that occur during practices and
competition. Proper management may include such things as
physician/physical therapy referral, preventative taping and splinting,
use of therapeutic modalities, assistance with various stretching and
rehabilitative exercises and good communication with parents,
physicians, physical therapists and coaches.
Robin and Jason spend countless hours taking care of the athletes
at their schools. They take great pride in what they do as athletic trainers
and we are happy to have them as part of our family at Richmond
Physical Therapy.
