Richmond and Ashland Physical Therapy are
proud to be two of the few clinics in the area
offering video analysis. We have currently
provided this service to various athletes in the
areas of running, throwing, golfing, and cycling
to name a few.
Video analysis is a great tool for any type of
patient, from gait training of the elderly to a
major league pitcher, due to its ability to detect
and break down motion that cannot be seen with
the naked eye. This equipment in combination
with our trained staff of physical therapists allows
the ability to see all of the details associated with
complex, rapid kinematic motion.
Prior to the video analysis procedure, a physical therapist conducts a thorough examination of the patient to
detect any preexisting impairments and/or functional limitations. Through the detailed examination the therapist
can narrow the focal point of the motion for analysis. Thus, allowing the video analysis to capture the activity
which can be viewed in real-time or further broken down for a more in depth analysis. The real-time footage
may be used as a form of visual biofeedback for the patient. However, our primary use of video analysis is to
use the slow-motion, freeze-framing and advanced technologies to dissect the movements being analyzed.
This in combination with our specialized knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics and physics helps to develop a
more concise explanation of the contributing factors of the patient’s dysfunction. We are then able to compile
all components from the examination and the video analysis to derive a treatment program to restore a patient
to their normal, desired functional level.
